Demographics of Malaysia


Malaysia consists of various races and religions, with the Malays are the largest ethnic groups in Malaysia. In terms of the constitution, the Malays are Malays who are cultured, speaks Malay and Muslim.
In the Malaysian context, the term indigenous is often used. Natives are considered as those from Malaysia, which covers a variety of races such as Malay, Dayak, Iban, Kadazan, Dusun and Kadazan others.
According to the Bulletin of Statistics (issued June 2006), the total population in Malaysia stood at 26.64 million people. 24.8 million people are citizens of Malaysia while the remaining 1.84 million are not citizens of Malaysia. The Malays represent 54% of the total population in 13:48 of millions of people. Indigenous people (apart from Malay) a total of 2.93 million people representing 11.8%. Hence, indigenous people represent 65.8% of the total Malaysian.
Approximately 25% of Malaysia's population is ethnic Chinese is about 6.22 million people, 7.5% are ethnic Indians with a total of 1.86 million people, while other races were about 1.7% of a total of 318.9 thousand people. Nearly 85% of Indians in Malaysia are Tamil people.

More than half the population of Sarawak and 66% of the population of Sabah consists of indigenous non-Malays. They are divided into dozens of ethnic groups but has the same general culture. Until the 20th century, most of them practice traditional beliefs, but now many have turned to embrace Christianity or Islam .
In addition, Malaysia also have people coming from Europe known as the " Christian "and the Middle East.
Malaysia's population density is not uniform, with nearly 18 million of 26 million Malaysians living in Peninsular Malaysia.
